About Rubidoux, California

Rubidoux was a census-designated place and unincorporated community in Riverside County, California, until July 1, 2011, when it became part of the city of Jurupa Valley.

The city is part of Southern California’s Inland Empire region, which is part of the Greater Los Angeles Area.

Rubidoux, like the rest of Jurupa Valley, has seen its fortunes change over time. Rubidoux used to be a rural area of quarries and dairy farms in the middle to late 20th century before becoming part of the larger areas around Los Angeles and San Diego. The population was 34,280 people as of the 2010 census

The Rubidoux region is located immediately west of the city of Riverside, along the Santa Ana River, and Mount Rubidoux, a prominent landmark for the area.

Rubidoux is served by two highways, California State Route 71 to the east and Highway 92 to the west. The city also has a minor airport: Flabob Airport, which features a 3,200-foot (980 m) runway. California State Route 60 runs through Rubidoux.

The name of the neighborhood honors Louis Robidoux, who came to settle there in 1843. Louis was born in French Canada and emigrated with his family from Quebec to St. Louis, Missouri, where he became interested in the fur trade and evolved it into a family business.

After 1803, when St. Louis officially became a part of the United States, Pierre Robidoux and his brothers were granted US citizenship. Robidoux was also a naturalized Mexican who had served as Alcalde of Santa Fe, New Mexico.

The town of Rubidoux is located on the former Robidoux family estate, Rancho Jurupa. The current spelling of the surname Rubidoux was adopted by descendants of Robidoux.

Mount Rubidoux

The summit of Mount Rubidoux is a city park and landmark in Riverside, California, United States.

The mountain is the site of the oldest outdoor non-denominational Easter sunrise service in the United States, as well as several historic markers and memorials.

The cross at the top dedicated to Father Junipero Serra is among them, as are several other illustrious visitors including George Washington and John Wayne.

After the cross attracted a possible lawsuit, the city decided to sell it at auction to a non-profit organization, half of Mt. Rubidoux is controlled by the City of Riverside, while 0.43 acres at the peak is owned by Rivers & Lands Conservancy.

The City of Jurupa Valley’s Rubidoux neighborhood begins at the base of Mount Rubidoux and runs along the bank of the Santa Ana River, which separates Riverside from the city of Jurupa Valley.

After purchasing a section of the Rancho Jurupa from Benjamin Davis Wilson, the city’s second elected mayor, Louis Rubidoux named it for himself in 1847. It was called Rancho Rubidoux until after World War I, when The Los Angeles Times described it as “mountainous and inaccessible.

We also serve the area of Rialto. Find out more by visiting this link
