The City of Jurupa Valley was formed by a group of dedicated community members on July 1, 2011. It is honored to be the 482nd City in California and the 28th City in Riverside County.
The major reason for incorporation was a desire for better police services and greater local control over planning and zoning issues.
The community of Jurupa Hills, the city of Mira Loma, Glen Avon, Pedley, Indian Hills, Belltown, Sunnyslope Crestmore Heights and Rubidoux are all located within the boundaries of this City. The City has a total population of 36,000 people.
The City of Riverside is located in the southern San Bernardino Valley. It borders San Bernardino County to the north, Riverside to the south and east, Eastvale, and San Bernadino County to the west. The Santa Ana River runs through part of the city’s south.
The town of Jurupa Valley is surrounded by a diverse array of natural wonders, including rolling hills and breathtaking views. The name “Jurupa” derives from the Native Americans who lived in the area before the Spanish arrived.
The Jurupa Valley region is located on the jurisdictional boundaries of two distinct tribes, the Gabrielino and Serrano tribes.
Over the years, various meanings of “Jurupa” have been proposed, including a greeting meaning “peace and friendship,” the first padre to come to the area, or a more widely recognized origin that “Jurupa” refers to California Sagebrush prevalent in the region.
Rancho Jurupa, named after the Spanish word for jacaranda, was founded in 1838 by Senõr Don Juan Bandini via a land grant from the Mexican government. By the end of the 1800s, due to its relative insignificance compared to Riverside, Jurupa Valley fell into the background.
A large portion of the Jurupa Valley was once covered by a Riverside mailing address. Settlement in the region now known as the City of Riverside, however, began many years before its formation.
The City of Jurupa Valley now features a blend of residential high- and low-density development, rural farming and agricultural activities, as well as a variety of commercial retail and industrial businesses.
The Jurupa Valley region is served by two major transportation routes: Interstate 15, which runs north and south, and State Highway 60, which runs east and west.
The most recent period has seen a rise in residential construction and economic activity, especially along Interstate 15 and Highway 60. The city has significant capacity for future growth of both residential and business development.

The Riverside Transit Agency provides public transportation in Jurupa Valley. Metrolink also stops at the Jurupa Valley/Pedley station (formerly Pedley Station). Flabob Airport, a small public-use airport, is located in Jurupa Valley. Commercial flights are available out of Ontario International Airport.
