The city of Grand Terrace, California, is located 5 miles south of San Bernardino in San Bernardino county and 7 miles northeast of Riverside in California. The inhabitants of the city are part of the Riverside-San Bernardino metropolitan region.

Grand Terrace History
The Terrace’s history starts in Mexican land grants from the years between 1830 and 1840. Mormon settlers followed shortly after, coming to the San Bernardino Valley during the 1850s.
In 1876, there were only nine structures in the Terrace-Colton region, according to the Riverside Press. The area was originally known simply as “the Terrace,” but around 1898, the term “Grand” was appended due to the breathtaking views that surround the city.
This city was founded in the early 1900s by a man named Joe Marcell, who had been active in real estate and citrus farming. Soon after then, it became an agricultural community. In 1978, Grand Terrace was incorporated as a city, with Tony Petta becoming the first mayor.
In 1905, Seventh-day Adventists, who had established a medical university in nearby Loma Linda the previous year, moved into the region. During the Southern California suburbia and sunbelt eras at the end of the twentieth century, Grand Terrace “South Colton” grew and developed considerably.
The construction of the Gage Canal brought Grand Terrace, or East Riverside, to reality.
The Santa Ana River marshlands below The Terrace supplied water for the 22-1/2-mile canal, which cost $2 million to build. Grand Terrace quickly developed into an agricultural neighborhood with high-quality citrus because of the abundant irrigation water.
The following year, the severe “freeze” of 1913 damaged many groves. Peaches were subsequently grown as a quick-profit crop alongside walnuts, which are a more hardy species.
